Age tops average awards in discrimination claims

The HM Courts and Tribunals Service further statistical report for employment tribunals covering the period 1 April 2010 to 31 March 2011 shows that the highest award of £289,167 was in a sex discrimination claim and that age discrimination claims had the highest average award of £30,289.

The HM Courts and Tribunals Service further statistical report for employment tribunals covering the period 1 April 2010 to 31 March 2011 shows that the highest award of £289,167 was in a sex discrimination claim and that age discrimination claims had the highest average award of £30,289.

The detailed employment tribunal statistical report for 2010/11 shows the following awards in discrimination, claims in the order of highest – median – average: (i) Age: £144,100 – £12,697 – £30,289; (ii) Disability: £181,083 – £6,142 – £14,137; (iii) Race: £62,530 – £6,277 – £12,108; (iv) Religion: £20,221 – £6,892 – £8,515; (v) Sex: £289,167 – £6,078 – £13,911; and (vi) Sexual orientation: £47,633 – £5,500 – £11,671.
