Government announces new statutory payment rates

The Government has announced the proposed new rates that will apply to ‘family friendly’ standard payments, Statutory Sick Pay and National Insurance thresholds, from April 2012.

The Government has announced the proposed new rates that will apply to ‘family friendly’ standard payments, Statutory Sick Pay and National Insurance thresholds, from April 2012.

Steve Webb, the Minister of State, Department for Work and Pensions, has announced the proposed rates of statutory benefits, which will apply from April 2012. These include: (i) the standard rate of statutory maternity, paternity and adoption pay will increase from £128.73 to £135.45 per week and the the earnings threshold to qualify for all three payments will increase from £102 to £107; (ii) maternity allowance will increase from £128.73 to £135.45, but the MA earnings threshold will remain the same at £30; (iii) Statutory Sick Pay will increase from £81.60 to £85.85 per week; and (iv) the national insurance lower earnings limit, will increase from £102 to £107.
