While the Government Equalities Office recently indicated that the Think, Act, Report (TAR) gender equality at work initiative “goes from strength to strength”, with the 200th company joining, meaning a total of 2.2m employees are now covered, an article in the Guardian [12 August] appears to indicate that ‘all is not rosy in the garden’. TAR encourages companies to think about gender equality, take action to promote opportunities, and report on what they are doing. An answer to a parliamentary question from Gloria De Piero, the shadow women and equalities minister has revealed that while more than 200 firms have signed up to the initiative's principles, only four have published their gender pay gap, and only two of those included different pay grades, which was the target of the scheme.
