A survey by Insurance2go found that 61% of people use a personal device (PDA) to answer work emails or conduct work tasks while out of the workplace but 41% were not aware of data protection rules that apply. The 61% of people conducting work-related tasks did so while commuting, while at home (including when ill) and on holiday and a further 16% of people said they checked their phones during their lunch hour. 46% said they weren’t aware of how the new GDPR rules affected their work on personal devices while ‘out of office’, suggesting employers need to do more to ensure their employees know how to keep their, and their client’s, data safe.
