The Government has published its response to the consultation on extending redundancy protection for women and new parents which proposes four changes to existing legislation: (1) ensure the redundancy protection period applies from the point the employee informs the employer that she is pregnant, whether orally or in writing; (2) extend the redundancy protection period for 6 months once a new mother has returned to work; (3) afford the same protection to those taking adoption leave; and (4) extend redundancy protection for those returning from shared parental leave, with a further consultation on the design of this protection over coming months.
