Breathing other people’s air?

Buildings re-circulate 80-90 percent of the air like airliners do, but without any filtration. U.S. buildings authorities, such as ASHRAE (The American Society of Heating & Refrigeration Engineers) recognises the fact that building ventilation systems are very efficient highways for the distribution of viruses, bacteria & moulds and recommend a range of mitigating technologies to reduce occupant exposure.

In the UK, there is no filtration used that would stop pollutants such as bacteria, viruses & moulds within buildings, but also those entering buildings from the outside air. The EU states that the UK is failing air quality standards. This polluted air is entering buildings, infecting & killing people (www.bbc.co.uk/news/10231389)

There is little knowledge about the role of droplet nuclei (aerosolised viruses, etc) sneezed out or flushed from toilets in spreading infections in buildings. UK buildings are designed using very old and outdated standards and consequently supply insufficient fresh air which contributes to humans catching infections. Indoor air quality tests are inadequate because they can’t detect viruses, the very viruses that cause these problems – UK buildings appear to get a bill-of-health” but this is in reality, meaningless.

Many Countries are now way ahead of us in the UK because they acknowledge the above facts. Following the SARs outbreak in the Far East & 911 in the US, international governments now specify the use of technologies such as Ultra Violet C in their public buildings to significantly reduce building occupant exposure to viruses & bacteria such as Influenza, Colds, MRSA, Norovirus, C.Diff etc. Even the cruise liners such as Disney, Carnival, Holland etc implement this type of technology into their ships to extinguish the threat of Norovirus for their customers. Since Disney have implement this type of technology they’ve not had another Noro’ incidents. Overview of this simple catch-all technology

Ultra Violet C Facts:
1.Will kill ANY virus, bacteria or mould regardless of strain or virulence.
2.Is approved by the U.S. GSA, (General Services Agency)
3.Is used in many, many U.S. Hospitals
4.Is mandated for hospitals & clinics in The UAE
5.Is installed in all public hospitals in Singapore
6.The CDC (Center fo Disease Control) recommend it’s use
7.Has been successfully tested by the U.S. EPA and Homeland Security

The technology sometimes known as “UVGI” (Ultra Violet Germicidal Irradiation), has been featured on the BBC news reports in the past. Overview of this simple catch-all technology http://www.e-co.uk.com/tbs.htm
