Expats looking for lifestyle in foreign secondments

The HSBC Expat Explorer Survey highlights that expats moving abroad today seek out locations that offer more balanced and well-rounded lifestyles.

Beverly Cook, Managing Director of specialist international healthcare provider, Expacare commented: “This research highlights the need for expats to lead a balanced lifestyle when they are working overseas. This is particularly poignant, as our latest “Anatomy of an international business 2014-15” report found that three fifths of company owners think SMEs will do business overseas in the future. This presents an opportunity for businesses, but also means they need to ensure they look after their staff so that they can enjoy their time overseas.

“Wherever staff are based, their health should be a top priority for employers. However when it comes to providing for international employees, the majority of businesses appear confused about the health care packages they should offer. Our survey found that many think health provision is a personal choice and nearly a third would like to provide cover, but simply cannot afford to. With so many more businesses setting their sights on international expansion it is imperative they look after one of their most important assets – their staff. They need to thoroughly research the healthcare systems before sending their employees to work. It’s essential that they provide them with the best quality private healthcare insurance so that they are protected when in foreign countries.”

This research was based on a panel of 1000 decision makers from UK businesses with 5-1000 employees. The sample is broadly representative of the UK across age, gender and region. Respondents were interviewed between 10th September- 26th September 2014. The research was conducted online on behalf of Expacare by independent research company One Poll.
