Hull received the largest increase of job applications in England last month, suggesting that new talent is being attracted to the city. July 2015 saw 54.1% more applications being made to roles in the city compared to July 2014. Furthermore, month-on-month applications (July v June) in the city rose by 19.3%, which was almost three times greater than the Nation’s average growth of 6.7%.

In addition, Hull also saw the strongest job growth in the country last month with the number of job postings for roles in the city rising by 49% in July 2015, compared to July 2014. These latest figures paint a promising picture of progression and suggest that efforts to expand Hull’s job market are clearly taking effect

The broader UK growth map is also encouraging for the region, placing it second only to Edinburgh, which saw a job increase of 56.8% last month. Interestingly, three of the UK’s top five cities with strongest job growth in July 2015 were in the North, indicating that George Osbourne’s vision of a Northern Powerhouse is beginning to take shape:

1. Edinburgh – 61.2% growth

2. Hull – 49% growth

3. Liverpool – 48% growth

4. Manchester – 40.5% growth

5. Birmingham – 36.8% growth
