Record number of job seekers and they don’t want to work in an office

More Brits than ever before are currently seeking a new position with most trying to ditch the office for good, new data has revealed. More Brits than ever before are looking for a new job as of January 2022, new data has revealed. What’s more, it seems that escaping the office environment is the top priority for Brits, with paramedic and counsellor ranking as the most in-demand positions.

Search data* was used to assess the current state of what has been termed “the great resignation”.

Searches for the job-application website, Indeed were at an all-time high as of January 2022. This could be attributed to the usual cases of itchy feet come the new year with the effects of Covid-19 very likely to have further influenced the “Big Quit”.

Search terms related to new careers uncovered that the most in-demand roles in the UK within the past 2 months were:

1. Vaccinator
2. Paramedic
3. Counsellor
4. Social Worker
5. Train Driver
6. Nurse
7. Teacher
8. Actor
9. Driving instructor
10. Police Officer

Not one of the top 10 most popular jobs involve an office setup, indicating that Brits are looking for more freedom, flexibility and variety in their careers.

Commenting on the data, EZ Shopper’s Director, Will Driscoll, said:
“It’s clear to see from the data that ‘the great resignation’ is very much underway, and who’s really surprised? We’ve all got at least a few friends who have been suffering from burnout throughout the pandemic, and in a post-covid world many of us are reassessing all areas of our lives including our career paths.”

“A toxic or uncomfortable workplace can have a huge impact on your mental and physical health. There are certainly ways to improve your office environment, from your desk setup to your colleague interactions; however, the new year could be the time to take the plunge and go for that role you’ve been dreaming of after all these years.”
