The world is changing. We know that. The metaverse – you’ve probably heard the term a lot. But what does it mean? How do you navigate this new, exciting (and possible daunting) world? We’re living in a world where virtual reality, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence are all impacting our daily lives. The metaverse is the space where these technologies converge to create an experience that’s not just about how we interact with our devices but also how we interact with each other.
Navigating the Metaverse demystifies the metaverse, putting it in its broader context as an entirely new way for us to interact with each other and our world. It’s about understanding how NFTs (non-fungible tokens), blockchain, web 3.0, AR (augmented reality), VR (virtual reality), AI, cryptocurrency and dApps (decentralized applications) all fit together into this digital space – and interface with the non-digital world.
Navigating the Metaverse offers a framework for understanding what’s possible right now, opens our eyes to how things might evolve in the future and sparks ideas for how businesses can leverage those possibilities into a competitive advantage. It also challenges the reader to think about how their own business could engage in these opportunities.
It brings the concept of the metaverse to life by telling you about some of the experiments brands are trying now and it takes what feels like complicated concepts and simplifies them. There are simple models in the book that help you understand what’s happening now and where things might go from here.
Written by 3 Silicon Valley thought leaders, each of the authors brings different perspectives to aid our understanding of the metaverse. The authors are open about being sponsored by Upland, a significant player in the emerging metaverse. This gives the authors access to many interesting people and experiences that make this book both entertaining and informative and maybe inevitably the book therefore offers a very positive spin on the metaverse and how it might evolve.
Having read the book it has certainly sparked my thinking about what the world in general and the world of work might look like when the metaverse becomes more mainstream. It’s a huge topic to grapple with but this book is a good introduction to those who want to understand it a little more.
