A new study* has revealed the most sought-after cities for entrepreneurs in the UK by analysing average monthly Google searches related to starting a business in various locations.

Top Cities for Starting a Business

  1. London

London tops the list with an average of 2,610 monthly searches for terms like ‘commercial property for sale’, ‘office space for sale’, ‘shop for sale’, and ‘office to rent’. As the UK’s capital, London is a bustling hub of business and networking opportunities. Its rich history and lively cultural scene create an ideal environment for entrepreneurs. With access to a diverse talent pool and numerous networking events, London offers unmatched resources, making it the perfect place for anyone aiming for success in the fast-paced business world.

  1. Glasgow

Glasgow ranks second with an average of 2,010 monthly searches, surpassing larger cities like Birmingham and Liverpool. Glasgow leads Scottish cities in the number of new start-ups each year, showcasing its excellent business potential. Choosing Glasgow as your business location means you’re in good company.

  1. Birmingham

Birmingham comes in third, with an average of 1,710 monthly searches. Located between London and Manchester, Birmingham is ideal for commuters who want the energy of a major city while being close to other key business centres. Birmingham boasts a busy urban environment with industries ranging from finance to technology, creating a fertile ground for business growth. Its excellent transport links, including a major international airport and extensive rail connections, make it easier for professionals to connect and collaborate across the country.

Manchester is the UK’s fourth-most popular city for new businesses, with an average of 1,560 searches per month. Edinburgh completes the top five with an average of 1,280 searches per month related to starting a business. Alongside Glasgow, Edinburgh demonstrates that Scotland is a major player in the UK’s entrepreneurial scene, providing a supportive environment for new ventures.
