In the next in our series of Covid-19 interviews with Senior HR Leaders, our Founder & Managing Director, Peter Banks, talks directly to Sharon Doherty, Chief People & Places Officer, Finastra – one of the world’s leading FinTechs, which is unlocking the power of finance for everyone. Finastra builds and delivers innovative, next-generation technology on its Open Fusion Software Architecture and Cloud Ecosystem and works with over 9,000 customers, including 90 of the top 100 banks globally. The company  supports a culture that reflects shared values and beliefs, which influence behaviours and how colleagues work together to achieve their purpose.

Sharon shares how Finastra enabled the majority of its 10,000 employees in 40 countries to work remotely during Covid-19. They have made their offices ‘available’ as opposed to ‘open’ during the crisis and as they look towawrds re-boarding, Sharon’s makes the point that, due to the different government guidance across the globe, the office environment isn’t what it was for their returning employees – this is a real global experiment.

Peter Banks, Founder & Managing Director of theHRDIRECTOR commented: “Finastra has a large number of employees across many sites, throughout a vast number of countries, so the task of ensuring that everyone could all work remotely was a significant challenge, but one they had to rise to, to ensure their business was sustained and their customers were supported. Sharon, suggests that we all need to look at what the future of work will look like – the belief is that it is flexible working, with reduced office space and we will see the virtualisation of work, but just how will this play out? Will we find ourselves back in the office full-time, will it be a mix, perhaps partly remote, balanced with the opportunity to meet at the office in vibrant, collaborative hubs? These are exciting and interesting times ahead and provide us with, hopefully, a real opportunity to design a better work/life balance for all.”

Watch the next in the series now, as we look to uncover a rich source of ideas, insight, strategies and new working practices as we continue to guide readers through this ongoing crisis Just what have we learnt from this global pandemic and is there an opportunity to return to ‘the new better’?
