Job cuts in education sector imminent

The number of jobs advertised within the education sector is in decline according to recruitment software provider, Recruitive.

2015 has so far seen a fall of 2.09 percent in the number of jobs advertised within the education sector via Jobmate, Recruitive’s multi-posting technology, compared to the same time period of last year.  The average number of candidate applications per vacancy has also reduced by 1.16 percent. The National Association of Head Teachers has recently warned that Britain’s head teachers will have to make significant job cuts at schools unless government education spending is increased.  “Staffing costs are way beyond safe levels,” David Hart, NAHT secretary said in a statement. “There has not been a big increase in funding at school level… the consequence will be significant job losses.”

Carla Fern, Operations Director at Recruitive comments: “Our figures suggest that schools have already had to start making cuts and this may well be one of the reasons as to why many are choosing to become academies. Carla Continues, “In June 2015 4,676 academies opened in England and there are hundreds more in the pipeline. One of the benefits of becoming an academy is that each school will receive the money which would have previously been held back by the local authority and they have more freedom and control as to how it is spent.” Over half of all secondary schools in England are now academies.
