What is most important to Job Seekers in 2021?

According to an anonymous survey, which consisted of over 1,946 U.S job seekers, 55.80% emphasized the critical importance of including information on salary range and benefits in job descriptions. In this survey, which was conducted in April 2021, a global staffing agency sought to determine what factors are most important to candidates as they navigate the job search.

Key Findings:

  • 55.80% of U.S job seekers stated that it’s important for information on salary range, benefits, and company perks to be included in job descriptions
  • 43.93% of U.S job seekers emphasized that smooth and efficient interview processes are essential
  • 40.95% of U.S job seekers said that they valued long-term relationship with recruiters and notifications on similar job openings

What is most important to job seekers during the online application process? 

When we asked job seekers what is most important to them during the online application process, 55.80% said job postings that include a salary range, as well as information on benefits and any company perks. Further, 17.28% said shorter online applications that could be completed quickly and stress-free, 19.34% said job postings that provide a road map of what the interview process will look like, and 7.51% said job postings that include the recruiter’s name and contact information.

What do job seekers value most during the interview process? 

When we asked job seekers what is most important to them during the interview process, 43.93% said interviews that are smooth and efficient, 24.42% said interviewers that express honesty, 23.96% said excellent communication throughout the entire process, and 7.71% said an office tour that will allow the job candidates to better understand what the company culture and work atmosphere is like.

What is most important to job seekers after the interview is complete? 

When we asked job seekers what is most important to them after the interview is complete, 40.95% said a long-term relationship with the recruiter and notifications on similar job openings, 33.16% said an immediate update on when the position is filled, and 25.81% said feedback on interview performance so that they know what they should improve upon.

What can we do, as hiring managers, to improve the job process for future candidates?

As a hiring manager for your organization, it’s important to ensure the efficiency of your online application process, by preventing any potential roadblocks along the way that may prevent your next best hire from submitting an application.

Based on the survey data above, job applicants not only prefer clear communication regarding the interview and hiring process, but other details in the job description. This may include salary range, information on healthcare and benefits, office perks, and anything else that makes your company unique. By incorporating just a few key details about the role and company as well as clear communication during the interview process, you are setting yourself and the job candidate up for success.
