January is well known for being the month of new beginnings. We often look to reinvent ourselves, make resolutions and a fresh start. Contributor Nick Kirk, UK Managing Director – Michael Page.
As a result, the first month of the year traditionally sees a surge of job applications. Now, the UK’s leading recruitment company, Michael Page has analysed behavioural trends in its own data to predict the busiest day in 2019 for job applications will be Tuesday 15th January.
Studying the last four years of data in January spanning thousands of applications, the recruiter noted the highest volume of job searches is traditionally on Tuesdays – a day often called the least popular of the working week. In addition, while you can expect to hear the ‘New Year, New Me’ mantra across the country right after New Year’s Eve it is actually the middle of the month which has shown to be the most popular time for applications.
“January is always an exceptionally busy time for recruitment as workers look to make a change in their lives and fulfil their New Year’s resolutions,” says Nick Kirk, UK Managing Director at Michael Page. “As a result, it can be difficult to stand out from the crowd amongst a sea of other applicants. We’d therefore advise job seekers to start their application process early – but never forget the value of proper preparation. Ensuring you have a thorough understanding of the company you are applying for and tailoring your CV to the role will work wonders for any job search in the New Year.”
