With the news that IKEA is set to pay its UK staff the living wage from April next year, a quick look at the employee ratings on Glassdoor shows that pay and benefits are rated 3.6/ 5.0 by UK staff, which is slightly higher than the average of 3.2. That rating has also increased over the past 18 months. However, as you can see below, numerous reviews mention the pay in a negative context.
But what is it that staff like and dislike about the company? This is where the employee comments are very revealing:
PROs:
“Excellent people oriented culture which recognises and rewards people on merit. Allows people to use their initiative and learn from their mistakes.” IKEA Store Manager
“Heavily subsidised canteen, presents, staff discount.” IKEA Sales, London
“really good ethos and culture, good way of thinking. xmas gifts, holiday pay, free bupa.” IKEA Shopkeer, Belfast
CONs:
“Average pay for its employees” IKEA Marketing Consultant, Wembley
“Not the company for those who are looking for the biggest salaries on the market. But the compensation package is very competitive” IKEA Manager
“doesn't pay very well in comparison to the rest of the industry” IKEA National Purchaser, London
