One million youths unemployed…

ONS figures are released on the 13th April and Youth unemployment expected to hit a million, fear looms of an unskilled nation.

On Wednesday the 13th of April the ONS’ latest unemployment figures will be closely watched, with many experts predicting unemployment figures to reach the sensitive 1 million mark. Carmen Watson, Managing Director of Pertemps Recruitment Partnership said, “It’s alarming that employment is continuing to rise amongst young people. Given Britain’s aging population, it is important that young people are placed into work early on, and employers should remain flexible and welcome them into the workplace through internships and internal mentoring and coaching.”

Watson continued, “Employers need to realize the potential that the younger generation has to offer and harness those skills accordingly.” Liz Field, CEO of the Financial Skills Partnership said, “It is worrying to see unemployment among young people rising, and it is absolutely vital to attract, retain and develop young people in the financial services sector. Having a diverse workforce is integral to the success of the sector which plays a significant part in Britain’s economy.”

Field continued, “Quality vocational training, such as apprenticeships, must be made available for the rising youth unemployment and we believe, to graduates in the job market. The concerning figures should encourage employer-hosted programmes which could boost the skills of young talent. Financial services apprenticeships would help maintain the UK’s place in the global economy.”
