On 28 May 2012, the Criminal Records Bureau introduced new identity checking guidelines to make it more difficult for individuals to conceal previous criminal records by changing their identity. To help organisations to comply with the new guidelines, they have been running parallel with the existing guidelines. The existing guidelines are valid until 31 August 2012. From 1 September 2012, organisations now have to follow the new guidelines that were published in May.
