BIS is asking for views on draft legislation on the new system for shared parental leave and pay: (i) the draft Shared Parental Leave Regulations 2014 implement the entitlement for qualifying employees to take shared parental leave in the first year of their child's life or in the first year after the child's placement for adoption; (ii) the draft Statutory Shared Parental Pay (General) Regulations 2014 implement the new entitlement to pay in respect of shared leave; and (iii) the draft Maternity and Adoption Leave (Curtailment of Statutory Rights to Leave) Regulations 2014 allow eligible women to curtail their statutory maternity leave to enable them or their partner to take shared parental leave, with an equivalent right for adopters. The Government is aiming for the arrangements for shared parental leave and pay to come into effect in relation to babies due, or children matched or placed for adoption, on or after 5 April 2015.
