The latest ONS estimate of the number of people who are employed on zero hours contracts in their main employment is 801,000 for October to December 2015, representing 2.5% of people employed. This latest figure is higher than that for October to December 2014 where the figure was 697,000 or 2.3% of people in employment. The analysis of Labour Force Statistics also shows that: people on zero hours contracts are more likely to be young, part time, women, or in full-time education; someone on a zero hours contract usually works 26 hours a week; and, around 37% on a zero hours contract want more hours, with most wanting them in their current job.
