Acas has published new advice after research revealed that only 1 in 4 employers adapt performance management systems for staff with special needs and disabilities and conditions such as dyslexia and autism. The study also found that: 1 in 10 employers said that their performance management system was demotivating for staff; and only 1 in 10 employers said that their systems were used for planning and monitoring training and development. Top tips for employers include: avoid surprises – managers should be discussing problems as they arise, and not leaving concerns until the end of year performance meeting; and, avoid discrimination – employers should consider the diversity of their workforce and ensure arrangements are fair to all and comply with the Equality Act.
