The Parental Bereavement (Leave and Pay) Act 2018 will come into force on 6 April 2020 by way of the Parental Bereavement Leave Regulations 2020 and the Statutory Parental Bereavement Pay (General) Regulations 2020. The ‘day one’ right to Parental Bereavement Leave will apply to all eligible employed parents who lose a child under the age of 18 or who suffer a stillbirth from 24 weeks of pregnancy. Parents with at least 26 weeks’ continuous service with their employer and weekly average earnings not less than the lower earnings limit will also be entitled to Statutory Parental Bereavement Pay.
